Theory & Formula

What is a Pyramid?

A pyramid is a polyhedron formed by connecting a polygonal base and a point (apex). The lateral faces are triangles that meet at the apex.

Formulas

Volume:

\(V = \frac{1}{3}A_{base} \times h\)

Slant Height (for square base):

\(l = \sqrt{(\frac{b}{2})^2 + h^2}\)

Surface Area:

\(SA = A_{base} + A_{lateral}\)

Example

For a square pyramid with base length 4 and height 6:

\(A_{base} = 4^2 = 16 \text{ square units}\)\(V = \frac{1}{3} \times 16 \times 6 = 32 \text{ cubic units}\)
