What is a Cube?

A cube is a three-dimensional solid object with six square faces, twelve edges, and eight vertices. All edges are equal in length, and all angles are right angles.

Cube Formulas

Volume:

\(V = s^3\)

Surface Area:

\(SA = 6s^2\)

Face Diagonal:

\(d_{face} = s\sqrt{2}\)

Space Diagonal:

\(d_{space} = s\sqrt{3}\)

Properties of a Cube

  • All 6 faces are congruent squares
  • All 12 edges are equal in length
  • All 8 vertices are identical (3 edges meet at right angles)
  • A cube has 4 space diagonals connecting opposite vertices

Example

Find the volume and surface area of a cube with side length 5 units:
