Statistical Measures

Statistics help us understand and summarize data sets. The main measures include:

  • Mean: The average value (sum ÷ count)
  • Median: The middle value when data is sorted
  • Mode: The most frequently occurring value(s)
  • Range: The difference between maximum and minimum values
  • Standard Deviation: Measures how spread out the data is from the mean
  • Variance: The square of the standard deviation
  • Quartiles: Values that divide the data into four equal parts

This calculator supports various input formats including simple data lists, frequency tables, and grouped data to accommodate different statistical scenarios.

\(\bar{x} = \frac{\sum x}{n}, \sigma^2 = \frac{\sum(x - \bar{x})^2}{n}, \sigma = \sqrt{\sigma^2}\)

Worked Examples

Example 1

\(\text{Data: } 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 \rightarrow \bar{x} = 3, M = 3, \sigma \approx 1.58\)

Example 2

\(\text{Data: } 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 \rightarrow \bar{x} = 30, M = 30, R = 40\)
