Theory & Formula

A parallelogram is a quadrilateral with two pairs of parallel sides. Opposite sides are equal in length, and opposite angles are equal in measure.

Key formulas and properties:

  • Area: A = b × h, where b is the base and h is the perpendicular height.
  • Perimeter: P = 2(a + b), where a and b are the lengths of two adjacent sides.
  • Opposite sides are parallel and equal in length.
  • Opposite angles are equal; consecutive angles are supplementary (sum to 180°).
  • Diagonals bisect each other.
\(A = b \times h\)

Worked Examples

Example 1

\(b = 8, h = 5 \rightarrow A = 40\) sq units

Example 2

\(b = 12, h = 7 \rightarrow A = 84\) sq units
